Events are natural disasters that not only have some negative effects for towns but also provide some profitable opportunities for the astute trader.

Hurricane icon Hurricane[]

Effect: Blocks the port from being accessed by the player and all production is halted while a town is under the storm. Ships that pass through the storm take additional damage. Hurricanes primarily arise in the months of April to September.

Locust icon Locust Plague[]

Effect: Blocks the port from being accessed by the player. All production is halted while a town is under the giant locust swarm. Citizens consume four times as many perishable commodities. Giant locust swarms can arise in the period from October to March.

Commodities affected: Fruits Hemp Bread Meat

Drought icon Drought[]

Caused by lack of rain for several weeks.

Effect: reduction of cultivated goods by 30%.

Commodities affected: Wheat Fruits Corn Sugar Hemp Cotton Dyes Coffee Cacao Tobacco Meat

Epidemic icon Epidemic[]

Caused by low quantity of hospitals in a larger town.

Effect: doubles the use of certain commodities.

Commodities affected: Textiles Clothing

Fire icon Fire[]

May arise from prolonged dryness in towns that use a lot of fire-intensive businesses. These include the Foundry, the Blacksmith and the Rum Distillery.

Effect: doubles the use of certain commodities.

Commodities affected: Wood Adobebricks

Low Prosperity[]

The maximum prices of the lacking commodities in the town are increased by 50%

Famine icon Famine[]

Caused by a consistent absence of at least 3 (the same 3, not a varying 3) of the 5 food commodities for 20 days.

Effect: Reduces the mood of the population of the town, and can cause emigration of some town population.

Commodities affected: Wheat Fruits Corn Meat Bread
